I previewed the Google +1 button a few months; Google’s answer to the Facebook Like. It’s only recently that I have started seeing the button on websites and blogs.
When larger websites start adopting it, most others are not too far behind, therefore it’s worthwhile adding the button to your website so that visitors can recommend your content. Adding the button to your website is very easy.
All you have to do is copy some JavaScript code over to your header (or before the closing body tag) and then place a short piece of code where you want the button to appear on your page. Google allow you to create a custom button that is 15 pixels (small), 20 pixels (medium), 24 pixels (standard) or 60 pixels in height (tall).
As you would expect, some nice WordPress developers have released plugins that automatically insert the +1 button into your posts. Those of you who prefer to use a plugin instead of hard coding it into your website should try out The Google +1 plugin or
Google +1 Button plugin for WordPress.
I’m personally going to wait until the fantastic JetPack plugin is automated with it (I have emailed them to ask when it will be integrated).
