Tokokoo designed a very unique theme for Smashing Magazine last month called Balita. Balita is a free ecommerce WordPress theme that was created specifically for baby and toddler products.
It was designed using CSS3 and HTML5 and is powered by the WordPress Ecommerce Plugin from GetShopped. The home page displays a beautiful jQuery slider that can show general information about your store or specific products.
The theme is a fully functional ecommerce solution with features such as zoomable product images, related products and a custom shopping card. There are multiple widget areas throughout the design and there is Facebook page integration too.
Multiple images can be shown for each product and customers can leave ratings for products too. Social media voting buttonns have also been integrated into this area.
For an ecommerce design, Balita has a pretty good blog template. The sidebar is widget ready so you can display your latest posts or your latest products.
Most ecommerce themes, whether they are free or premium, usually have a generic design that can be used in any niche. Therefore it is encouraging to see a developer design specifically for one niche. It could obviously be modified slightly to be used in any niche though.
If you are looking for a good ecommerce WordPress theme I recommend giving Balita a try. You won’t be disappointed
