Oli Dale contacted me last week about reviewing his brand new plugin WP-Answers - a new premium WordPress plugin which changes WordPress into a fully functional question and answer site, just like Yahoo Answers. The plugin comes packaged with it's own unique theme. 6 colours are available: blue, brown, purple, green, black and red. The theme also has a basic options page which allows you to add your RSS details, about info, Google Analytics tracking code and change your logo and favicon. The theme is unique and has a clean look, though it does have a 'WordPress' feel to it (if you know what I mean!). Just under the header is a large search type bar. This is where users can submit their own questions. If a user is not a member they will be taken to the registration page in order to sign up. The theme sidebar is widgetized so you can drag and drop a range of WP-Answers related widgets into this area to suit your needs. If you use WordPress for a company or community website then you will love People Lists; a new plugin which lets you create customised groups for your users. Once you have created your list you can add it to any post, page or template using a simple line of shortcode. You can create a list for any group of people you like. You simply need to enter the name of the list and then drag the users into it. People Lists WordPress Plugin There is a default list of shortcodes which can be used in templates to display specific fields however you can also create your own custom profile fields if necessary. People Lists Profile Settings Once you have created your list you display the information anywhere on your website. It's common for WordPress themes to come integrated with social media voting buttons. However, many themes do not, whilst others simply have simple text links to sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Thankfully there are lots of great plugins which automatically add social media sharing buttons into your site. Back in March I showed you 11 of the best social media plugins for WordPress. One which would easily fit into that list is Sharedaddy, a new sharing plugin which was released a few days ago. The plugin lets users share your posts via Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, StumbleUpon, PressThis, Digg and email. You can also add a print link. It's possible to add other sharing sites and services too via the settings area. Sharedaddy WordPress Plugin Once the plugin is installed, all you have to add a social media site underneath your posts is drag and drop the service in the plugin settings area. You can remove the site icons if you like, determine the text which appears before the links and set whether the links open in a new window. Unfortunately there is not an option to add the...
The default version of WordPress comes with a range of import tools which let you import users from other WordPress powered sites and a range of blogging scripts. Last week Teleogistic released a new plugin called Simple Import Users which lets you import new users using only email addresses. You can enter an infinite number of emails into the form. A user will then be created for each email address using the first part of the email address (e.g. test@hotmail.com would create the user test). You can also set the user role for each imported user and a welcome email is also sent to every new user (and includes a link to the users BuddyPress profile if it is installed). Simple Import Users WordPress Plugin I don't have a need for using this plugin however I can see how useful this could be for others. It was specifically developed for a College to import users using the email list they had for students so organisations and companies would no doubt see the similar benefits. Comments are a huge part of any content based website which is why I am always looking for plugins and mods which enhance the users commentating experience and encourage them to comment more. One plugin which does do this is Live Comment Preview. The plugin adds a preview of the users comment underneath the comment area so that visitors can check their comment is formatted correctly before they post it. This is particularly useful to people who use HTML code in their comments to include links, quotes or text enhancement (bold, italic etc). Live Comment Preview WordPress Plugin If your commentators are regularly using HTML code in their comments then I would encourage you to install Live Comment Preview. It's a very simple plugin but it's one which makes the comment area more practical. Good luck, Kevin Download Link: Live Comment...
Dynamic To Top WordPress PluginA link to the top of the page is common place in a lot of website footers. If you want to provide a link to users to go back to the top of the page but are looking for something different then you may want to consider the Dynamic "To Top" WordPress Plugin from Matt Varone. The plugin automatically adds a button to the bottom right hand side of your page. The button only appears if the user scrolls downwards and it remains stationery in the bottom position. Dynamic To Top WordPress Plugin In the settings area you can set the speed in which the page scrolls back to the top and the way it scrolls up too. Dynamic To Top WordPress PluginAlso, if you don't like the upward arrow then you can replace it with the text of your choice. Dynamic "To Top" is a very basic plugin but it's perfect for those who are looking...
