Question ProBlog Issues

Great review on the ProBlog template, it was just what I was looking for. I decided to purchase it, especially after seeing the way you're using the theme.

I do have a few questions though. How can I create a banner area, instead of the sliders? I dont intend on using the sliders for quite some time, so it would be nice just to have a banner area over top. I have placed one in the logo area, and it stretches it out beyond the page design.

Second, did you have any problems with the twitter widget? Seems like its always breaking, or if it does decided to work, the little bird graphics dont show up (on IE9, works fine in Chrome/Firefox). Also, the 'Related Posts' widget, the graphics dont appear to be centered in the frame. (speaking of which, why are their link boxes showing up on IE9 in the first place? they dont show up in Chrome/Firefox)

Finally, I'm using a commenting plugin called Social. When I click on the Facebook/Twitter login, it takes me to the login screen, but it wont actually let me log in for the comments. It has worked fine in all previous templates, so it makes me wonder if this template is preventing it somehow.

You can see the issues here: http://ninjalove.com

Anyway, any advice would be great, and if not, I will just keep waiting for their help desk to respond. Do you know what their typical response time is? Thanks!

Edit: I had a whole laundry list of other issues I was running into, but I found a corrupt post that seemed to be causing the issues. Didn't even know that was possible.

    Hi Ninjalove,

The featured sliders are coded at the top of the index.php template. You could simply replace this code with your banner code and align it to the left or centre.

I've never used the twitter widget myself though I checked it out on your site and it seems to be working ok.

With regards to related posts; are you referring to the area underneath posts in the single.php template?

I've never used the social plugin you are referring to so I'm not sure what is causing the problems you are experiencing. Facebook can be temperamental with code. There was another forum member here recently who had a problem with facebook comments not appearing. Turns out there was duplicate code in another template. Perhaps you have a similar issue.

When I first purchased the theme their support was great. Since then it has been truly awful and they have not replied to my last queries. I'd be reluctant to purchase from them again because of this.

    Thanks for the response, Kevin!

As for the featured sliders, I'll check out index php and see if I can get it taken care of without their assistance.

As for the twitter widgets, it kind of decides when it wants to work, and when it doesnt. When it doesnt, I get the following error:

Warning: array_slice() expects parameter 1 to be array, object given in /home/ninja/public_html/wp-content/themes/problog-single-pro/includes/w.php on line 373
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/ninja/public_html/wp-content/themes/problog-single-pro/includes/w.php on line 375

Regardless of if its working, it never shows those little "tweet" graphics in IE, like it does in Chrome/Firefox.

Also in IE, for some reason I have a frame around my linked graphics, and I cant for the life of me figure out why its happening.
Yes, I'm referring to the Related Posts that show up at the bottom of each post. In IE, the graphics do show up correctly.

With the Social plugin, I'm not sure what's going on. Everything is working correctly except when I try to log into Facebook/Twitter to make comments. It will go to the site like its logging in, but then doesnt actually do it. Its worked flawlessly with every other theme, so I'm wondering if its in conflict with other code.

I agree about support. I have yet to have one thing responded to, and its been 5 days. Although, when I needed a new key for the theme after switching it out, Matt responded almost immediately.

Have you tried using the official non-wordpress widget for twitter. It's really good.

With regards to the related posts, I hadn't noticed that before. I checked wpmods and noticed I had the same problem. I noticed a few other problems with the design too.

For wpmods, I don't want to spend too much time editing it as I am planning on changing the design again. I loved the design at first but I have found so many problems with the design after using it.

Did you raise the issue about the related posts with magazine3?
  5. Ninjalove New Member

I've raised every issue I've had with magazine3, and after 5 days I've havent received a single response. Same with writing to their sales email address. I asked about support on their facebook page, and it was taken down off their wall within 5 minutes. Guess I'm out of luck for any type of support from them.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm really surprised they took your support query down. It's very unprofessional. I'll send them a quick email to reply to this thread and see if they can resolve this.

They finally got a hold of me this morning, and were helpful in correcting my css issues that I was having. Still having issues with almost all of the plugins/widgets in IE9 though. Seems to be my only problem, and I can't figure out why they wont work there, and work fine on every other browser.

    Thanks again for your support!

no problem. Yeah they replied to me right away and advised that they had contacted you. Apparently a new release is due any day now. I'm keen to see if the problems you spoke about, such as the related posts issue, has been fixed.
  9. Ninjalove New Member

Maybe that's the reason they've been so slow on ticket support. Who knows.

They said they didn't see anything wrong with the related posts. I told them that I could send them a screen cap of the problem, so we'll see.

I hadn't noticed the problem myself before but after reading your comment I loaded wpmods up on ie and noticed how bad it looked. Hopefully they address this issue.

Though I must admit, I hate how so many designs break in IE. IE has been messing up website designs for what seems like forever.

I agree, I look forward to see what kind of fixes they come out with in the next version. Did they say when they were planning on releasing it?

Also, have you tried installing/using an image overlay in the theme yet? I've tried several, and instead of the overlay popping up once you click on a graphic, it just takes you to a new page with the image. I just asked them about a fix for that as well.
  12. Kevin Muldoon WordPress Fanatic!

When I spoke to him a few days ago Matt advised that he already released it but just hadn't updated it on the blog. When I queried when they said it would be soon. There's no announcement on the blog as yet so who knows when it will be released.

I'm unsure as to why they said it was already released - as if it can't be downloaded and isn't announced, it isn't released.

Not sure what you mean about the overlay image. Do you mean in the theme itself or in a post or page? Can you be more specific about what you have did and what didn't work :)
  13. Ninjalove New Member

Like an image within a post. For example, if you posted a picture in a post, and sized it as a thumbnail, then when you click on the photo it will popup as an image overlay (I believe thats what they call it??) so that you dont have to leave the page to view the larger image.

Right now if I post an image, and they click on it, it just takes them to a new page with the larger image.
  14. Kevin Muldoon WordPress Fanatic!

oh right. You will need to install a lightbox plugin to do this.

    Something like Lightbox Plus.
  15. Ninjalove New Member

Yeah, I've tried almost all of them. They dont appear to work with this theme. I was just wondering if you had run into the problem as well. Whenever Lightbox (or any of the various other similar plugins) is installed, I'll click on the image, and it will still just take me to another page, instead of popping the image up in the overlay.
  16. Kevin Muldoon WordPress Fanatic!

No I haven't noticed that. I don't use an overlay plugin myself.

Bear in mind that magazine3 (stupidly) included some free plugins with the theme. You will find these in the includes folder. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/photo-galleria/ is a photo gallery plugin that is built into the theme. You could perhaps delete that from the includes folder and see if the other plugins work after that.
  17. Ninjalove New Member

I was thinking the same thing, but when I delete the folder I start getting errors left and right. I'll wait for their response and see if they have any ideas. Thanks :)

Ninjalove - I, like you have had many issue with the Pro Blog and the "pre-installed" plugins. As Kevin indicated, simply removing the photo galleria plugin from the includes folder worked a charm. I'm too anxious to see what updates will be in the updated Theme. Not to be pessimistic, but I have not heard from them in over 2 weeks on an issue I asked for help on. Luckily we have Kevin's knowledge here ;)
  19. Kevin Muldoon WordPress Fanatic!

    What errors are you getting?

I forgot to advise you. If you delete a folder such as yoast-seo from the includes folder, you will need to remove the reference to it from functions.php (i.e. the line that includes the plugin).
  20. Ninjalove New Member

That was probably the issue, that I didn't remove the reference.

They finally went in and fixed the issue, but I'm sure it's something I'll try to do later anyway.

Steve - They ignored my tickets altogether for 5 days, then I took the relentless approach, and emailed them non-stop, and sent requests to their facebook/twitter accounts, until they took notice of me. After that, they've been very attentive. Maybe that would help speed up the process for you as well. ;)

I agree though, Kevin, your help has been amazing, thanks for always being so willing to extend a helping hand!
