Problem Wordpress tweny eleven

Discussion in 'WordPress Themes' started by Chrissie Bettencourt, Nov 15, 2011.

  1. Hello! I just activated the wordpress twenty eleven theme and for some reason it won't let me post a custom header. It uploads the photo, crops it and apparently publishes it, but it doesn't show up on my site or on the theme dashboard. Can anyone help me with this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Chrissie,

Can you post the URL you are trying of the website that is experienced the problem. Also, can you confirm that the header is uploaded correctly and displayed in your WordPress admin area.

Don't worry - we should be able to resolve this :)

  3. Hi Kevin! Thanks for the help :) Here is the URL: http://awakenyoursenses.info/wordpress/
In the admin area, it is not fully visible. Here is what happens:
    1) I load up a photo
    2) It takes me to the page to crop it
    3) I crop it, publish it
    4) I am taken back to the admin and the buttons for the new photo/header are there, but the image is not.

Let me know if you need any other info, thanks again!

    Hey Chrissie,

I reproduced the steps you took using the twenty eleven theme in my test blog but didn't run into any problems. Your uploads folder looks like it's writeable and I assume that you're using the latest version of WordPress. I've not heard of any plugins conflicting with Twenty Eleven though it could be prudent to disable all your plugins temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.

I'm happy to check it out for you if you can provide a temporary admin login for me. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes helps :)
  5. That would be super helpful if you could go in as an admin and look at it. I can't figure it out. I have everything updated, although I never thought of disabling the plug ins. If you can send me your email address I can provide you with a temporary admin for it. You can email me at the address on the "about me" page. Thanks!

I've emailed you Chrissie. I'll post my findings here for you once you have provided the login.

By the way, we have a messaging system in the forum too should you ever need to contact myself or anyone else here directly :)

I just logged in using the details you sent me.

There is a problem with uploading. Can you check the writing permissions of your uploads folder.

I believe the issue is with uploading files to your wp-content/uploads folder, not the header feature. If you set the uploads folder correctly you should be ok.
  8. Great! What do I need to change in the uploads folder though? The settings for saving uploads are set up to store in this folder: wp-content/uploads. The Full URL to pathfiles is blank.

    Thanks!

All you have to do is make sure your uploads folder has 775 as it's permissions (you can change these permissions using FTP or via your hosting area).
  10. Hi Kevin! so sorry for the delay, I got bogged down with something else. I will go in and try and fix that this week. Thank you so much for your help! If I have any other questions I will come back :)

    Have a good week!

  11. Hi Kevin! I tried changing the permissions but the header still won't load. Is there anything else it could be? Maybe the path file for the media library is off somewhere?

    Thanks!

What are the permission settings for the uploads folder?
  13. I clicked on the uploads folder, and for every folder under that one the permissions are:

web user: read, write and execute (all checked off)
owner: read, write and execute (all checked off)

    Thanks!

    Hi Chrissie,

This is what is causing your problem. You need to make your uploads folder, and all folders underneath, writeable. Change the permissions of the folders to 755 and it should be ok.
