Lightbox 2 is a simple script from Lokesh Dhakar which lets you overlay images on your page.
After installing the plugin you need to link to some javascript files in your header and the lightbox stylesheet. Then all you need to do is add the rel=”lightbox” attribute to any link to activate the lightbox.
Lightbox is a quick way of presenting your images in a more professional manner. It’s worth considering if images are an important part of your website.

There is another plugin called Fancybox for Wordpress which does the same but unless we want to apply some advanced settings, we do not need to set up anything else after installing it .
