The Erudite is a free minimalist WordPress theme from Soma Design. It was apparently written specifically for writers though it could obviously be used by anyone 
The theme has a grid design with 960 pixels in width. The latest post excerpt is displayed prominently on the home page with the next 3 latest posts in excerpt underneath. Clicking on the ‘Further Information’ link at the bottom of the page will reveal the 3 column widget footer.
The Erudite is licensed under the the GNU General Public License (v2.0). Worth looking at if you need something simple for your project.
