10 days ago I spoke about how I integrated the new WordPress menu system into the WP Mods design as the navbar was previously hard coded. Introduced in WordPress 3, the WordPress nav menu allows you to easily create menus for your website.
The WP Mods theme was already styled for drop down menus however I was looking for something more stylish. Thankfully I found the perfect plugin that did exactly what I wanted. Retailing at only $14, the UberMenu from Seven Spark is the self-declared ‘WordPress Mega Menu Plugin’.
The plugin gives you complete control over your navigation menu. You can easily add icons and thumbnails to links, create multi column drop down menus and even add maps, contact forms and galleries to your menus.
If you don’t want to place a search box in your sidebar, you can place it in your navbar using UberMenu.
UberMenu works with your existing WordPress 3 menu system. The plugin simply lets you style your menu more easily. It includes a host of different settings that let you change how the menu operates. For example, you can set drop down links to appear when you hover or when you click on the parent link. Descriptions can also be added to your links.
21 style presets are included with the plugin so you are sure to find a design that suits your current theme. If you are looking for something a little different you can either modify the custom preset or use the plugins fantastic style generator. The generator lets you easily define the colour scheme of your menu.
I am using the UberMenu style generator to define the drop down menu colour scheme and hover colours on WP Mods. Once I defined my colours, I simply had to arrange the pages in my menu in the order I wanted.

Although creating a simple menu using UberMenu is straight forward, to create more complicated menus requires a little knowledge of CSS. You will be pleased to know that there is an extensive help guide which walks you through how to add columns, widgets and pictures to your menu.
I only added UberMenu this week so I am still getting to grips with what you can do with the plugin though I am planning on adding icons to drop down links and using the column option.
If you are looking to extend the functionality of your WordPress menus, I recommend checking UberMenu out. You won’t be disappointed
