WordPress 3.0 Beta 2 Released

Written by on May 7, 2010 in WordPress News - No comments

One month ago I gave a preview of WordPress 3.0. The version which I reviewed was WordPress 3.0 Beta 1. It was rumoured that the first stable release of WordPress 3 would be at the start of May but unfortunately that is not the case.

However a few hours ago WordPress did announce the release of WordPress 3.0 Beta 2. The main changes are a revised menu user interface and core changes to the import and export system (which apparently make it more flexible).

Thankfully I took a screenshot of the menu area for my WordPress 3 preview article last month so I can show you the changes in the menu area (from my test blog).

From this:

To This:

As you can see, the custom menu boxes have shifted from the right to the left. You should also see a + symbol in the main menu area now. Clicking on this allows you to add more custom menus.

Other than a few changes to the new menu option, there isn’t too many things for beta testers to play with.

Remember it is advisable to use WordPress 2.9.2 on your live blogs until a stable release for WordPress 3.0 has been announced. Though I encourage you all to download this latest beta version in a test area and play around with it if you have time.
